Truck Garden
Courtesy of the Japan Federation of Landscape Contractors/Created by Fukuharu Zouen
In Japan, people compete by making gardens on the backs of small trucks.
Plants can grow in some really weird places. But gardeners in Japan have taken this to the extreme. They’ve created gardens on the backs of delivery trucks.
The activity is part of a yearly contest. The only rule is the garden must fit in the truck bed. Fans vote for their favorite. In 2018, contestants created 13 gardens.
The winning gardens go up for sale—sometimes at a very big price. The winners can sell for about $5,000!
The back of a truck is about 80 inches long and 50 inches wide.
Draw a rectangle and label the length and width. Write an equation to find the area.
