Death Valley is famous for its blazing hot temperatures. For the past two years, the California desert had the hottest month ever recorded.
In 2018 and 2017, the average temperature for days and nights in July was 108 degrees Fahrenheit. For 21 days in July in 2018, the temperature reached 120 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
Death Valley’s features make it a scorching environment. It’s surrounded by tall mountains that hold in the heat. The land is below sea level. Little rain falls. There’s also hardly any shade, since few trees grow there.
