Social and emotional learning (SEL) refers to developing a variety of nonacademic skills, namely helping students better understand their emotions and build empathy for others. Research has shown that students exposed to SEL instruction have healthier attitudes and behavior, exhibit improved social and emotional skills, and perform better academically.

We embed social and emotional learning into every issue of DynaMath, so your students are learning to empathize with others, manage emotions, and make responsible choices. We intentionally craft our articles to champion inclusion and support student empowerment and equity with math. 

In addition, every DynaMath article includes a “Math Talk” prompt to spark mathematical discourse in the classroom. In the Digital Resource Guide, lesson plans include opportunities for partner work and collaboration. Some lesson plans include SEL discussion prompts when applicable to help take these skills further.
